On May 12, the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy voted to award $50,000 to People for Parks for a feasibility study of one or more CSPs in the northern portion of the L.A. River Watershed. click for expandable map of watershed This is a prelude to the potential allocation of Prop 84 funds for school greening. Other private philanthropies are offering to fund enrichment programs and supervision at CSPs.
Meanwhile, a working group appointed by the L.A. City Council and LAUSD Board of Education is developing an application process and selection criteria for schools to become CSPs. The working group's report is due July. Click for Council and LAUSD resolutions on CSPs.
Since the LAUSD Board of Education approved the Community-School Parks motion on Feb. 11, People for Parks has received support from each school site council that has heard PFP describe the project. On June 15, the Trinity Elementary council voted in favor, following councils at Sendak and 28 th Street in March. Councilwoman Jan Perry, who represents the neighborhoods around 28th Street and Trinity schools, has endorsed CSPs. For more information about the project, please email PFP Consultant Carrie Sutkin.
