City Parks Committee Approves CSP Report
On Feb. 4, the Los Angeles City Council’s Arts, Parks, Health and Aging Committee heard presentations from four members of the Community-School Parks Working Group. Appearing before Committee Chair Tom LaBonge and Councilwoman Janice Hahn were PFP Vice President John Perez, City Parks Planning Superintendent Mike Shull, Tom Bower of Beyond the Bell, and Mary Rodriguez, LaBonge’s Education Deputy
LaBonge and Hahn approved the CSP report, which includes criteria for choosing which school playgrounds to landscape, and sent it on to the full City Council, where each of the 15 members will be asked to identify an appropriate site in their district.
After endorsing the Working group report last November, the LAUSD Board of Education gave a green light to pilot projects at Trinity Street and 28th Street elementary schools. Click

PFP is currently contacting philanthropic foundations and city, state and federal officials to find funds for building CSPs. We have also asked various state and local agencies to include CSPs in their requests to the Obama Administration for stimulus money.
Contact PFP consultant Carrie Sutkin for more information on how you can support the CSP program with time or funding.
