Vine Street CSP Adds Green to Hollywood
The L.A. Unified School District is flexing a big green thumb in neighborhoods with limited access to public recreation. On Saturday, Feb. 4, LAUSD and People for Parks dedicated a second Community-School Park at Vine Street Elementary in Hollywood. Vine Street Principal Chris Stehr and the Student Council led students and parents in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by speeches by PFP President Jack Foley and Vice President John Perez. Also speaking were LAUSD School Board member Marguerite LaMotte, L.A. City Councilman Tom LaBonge, State Assemblyman Mike Feuer, and Tim Bower and John Han of Beyond the Bell. Cal State Long Beach students and Scott Ammons of REI led recreational activities in the newly greened playground and the KIIS-FM Crew provided entertainment. LAUSD and PFP are now evaluating schools in the Pico Union neighborhood for future CSPs.
